Susan Nomberg McCollough, USA

Susan Nomberg McCollough, born in Bronx, New York. Lived in Dothan, Alabama from the age of six until graduation from Dothan High School.
Susan Nomberg McCollough received her bachelor of science degree in speech and art from The University of Alabama and has continued to study with many accomplished artists and teachers, including Professors Al Sella and Frank Engle of Tuscaloosa, Alabama,Max Hellman at The Birmingham Museum of Art; and Barbara Moon at The Little House on Linden in Birmingham. She has also studied at the Delgado Museum of New Orleans, now the New Orleans Museum of Art and in such places as Pensacola, Florida; Boston, Massachusetts; and at the University of California, Los Angeles. Susan’s paintings are displayed inlibraries, banks, hospitals, senior care facilities, interior design showrooms, corporate offices, and private collections. She has produced more than 500 paintings, many of which were commissioned, and has... exhibited in more than 10 solo exhibitions in Alabama and Florida. Her works are held in collections in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Texas, New York, California, Virginia and New Jersey. Her commissioned portrait of Pasquale's Inc. founder "Papa" Pasquale hangs in the company's national corporate office. The University of Alabama commissioned Susan to create a painting to honor her late professor and life-long mentor, Al Sella. The painting is an impressionistic portrait of the iconic artist and his emblematic bicycle.The large portrait now hangs in the art building, Clark Hall, and is slated to do so in perpetuity.

She served on the Art Committee at the United States Sports Academy for more than 10 years. The USSA attracts and honors artists from around the world and is solely responsible for selecting featured artists for the Olympics. She now serves the committee as Artist Emeritus.

McCollough paints primarily on large canvases, sometimes working on as many as three or four paintings at a time. Her works are Abstract Expressionist in style with freedom of movement, and vibrant, or sometimes, monochromatic colors. She paints in acrylics and oils as well as works in mixed media with charcoal, pastels, or watercolors.
She was a partner/owner of StudioThree in Florida and today, works at her studio at home in Gulf Shores, Alabama as well as her studio at The Susan N. McCollough Gallery/Studio. Susan’s latest endeavor is her new Gallery and Studio that will house 50 or more representative examples of her work. The theme of her Grand Opening is: “Pastand Present” She is excited about publically displaying her work after years of painting, as she says, “For the love of it.” Most days you will find her working in the Studio where she welcomes all visitors to her new Gallery and Studio.
